A MAC address (media access control address) is a 12-digit hexadecimal number assigned to each device connected to the network. MAC address are also called known as physical address, hardware ID, wireless ID or Wi-Fi address. The following steps can be performed to find the MAC address on different devices:
Computer Operating Systems
macOS
- Go to the Apple menu in the upper left corner of your screen.
- Choose System Preferences.
- Click on Network.
- Click on Ethernet (for wired connections) or Wi-Fi (for wireless connections) on the left side.
- Click on Advanced.
- Click on Hardware near the top.
- The MAC Address is listed on that page.
Windows 10
- Go to the search bar.
- Type “cmd” (without the quotation marks) in the search box.
- Click on the cmd entry.
- In the new Command Prompt window, type “ipconfig /all” (without the quotation marks) and hit the Enter key.
- Look for the line that reads “Ethernet Adapter: Local Area Connection” (for wired) or “Ethernet Adapter: Wireless Connection” (for wireless).
- Below that line, you will see another line that starts with “Physical Address”.
- The Physical Address is the MAC Address.
Mobile Operating Systems
Android
Note: These instructions may vary by device.
- Open Settings.
- Choose About Phone/Tablet and then Status.
- The MAC address is listed under Wi-Fi MAC address.
Apple iOS (iPhone/iPad)
- Open Settings.
- Select General, then About.
- The wireless MAC address is listed under Wi-Fi Address.
