Adding Multi-Factor Authentication to Your Broward College Account
Broward College supports OneLogin Protect App and Microsoft Authenticator App as the two methods of authentication for accessing college accounts. Please watch the video below for a step-by-step guide on setting up Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA). If you prefer, you can continue reading for detailed instructions on how to install and start using each MFA method. After completing the setup of OneProtect and Microsoft MFA, please send an email to bcmfa@broward.edu confirming that you have finished the registration process. The IT department will then enable MFA on your account.
Setting up OneLogin Protect App
This setup guide is assuming security questions are already setup and a user would like to add additional Security Factors protection to their Broward College account using the Onelogin Protect App. The app will allow the user to receive push notification when someone is trying to log into their account and they can deny or allow login access immediately.
Step 1. Go to www.broward.onelogin.com
Step 2. Log in with your BC Email or Username, click Continue.
Step 3. Type your BC Password, click Continue.
Step 4. Once you successfully logged into BC One Access, click on your name on the top right-hand corner. Select Profile
NOTE: To setup OneLogin Protect App security factor, you will need to be at a computer and have your smartphone/device available.
Step 5. In your BC One Access Profile, Click Add Factor
Step 6. Click Activate
Note: If do not have the Protect App on your new device, you will need to install the OneLogin Protect App on your device (cell phone)
When the app is installed, come back to the screen and click Activate.
Step 7. Scan the QR Code that appears on your PC
Step 7. The box displays a green checkmark will appear, success!
If you can't scan the code, click "Can't scan the code?" and click pair using manual entry
Click on Options and select "Set as primary" to set push notifications as your main authentication method.
Setting up Microsoft Authenticator
Setting up MFA for your Microsoft 365 account is a straightforward process and will provide the smoothest user experience. Please ensure that the app is already installed on your mobile device before you begin the set up steps below. Task: To set up Multi-factor Authentication (MFA) for your Microsoft 365 account using the Microsoft Authenticator App
Note: These instructions assume you are using a computer. If you do not have access to a computer at this time, follow the instructions here instead - Setting up Microsoft Authenticator App using Mobile Phone/Device only
Instructions
Step 1 - On your computer, go to: myaccount.microsoft.com
Step 2 - Click on UPDATE INFO in the Security info tile
Step 3 - Click Add sign-in method
Step 4 - Click the Choose a method drop down and select Authenticator app
Step 5 - If you do not have the FREE Microsoft Authenticator app on your phone, install it now.
Step 6 - Click Next after the Microsoft Authenticator app is installed on your phone.
Step 7 - On your phone, open the Microsoft Authenticator app. Allow notifications if prompted.
Step 8 - In the app, click Add account or the Plus Sign +. Select Work or School account and the option to Scan QR Code.
Step 9 - If prompted, Allow the Microsoft Authenticator app to Access the Camera.
Step 10 - Use the Microsoft Authenticator app on your phone to scan the QR code that appears on the computer screen. After you scan the code, click Next.
Step 11 - If prompted, Allow the Authenticator app to Send You Notifications.
Step 12 - On your phone, Approve the test notification from Microsoft Authenticator
Step 13 - You're all set and can now use the Microsoft Authenticator app for multi-factor authentication (MFA).
Step 14 - Click Next and You will receive a message indicating you have successfully setup the Microsoft Authenticator app. Please ensure you see the message in green before closing the window.
Outcome
Please remember to send an email to bcmfa@broward.edu confirming that you have finished the registration process so that the IT department will then enable MFA on your account. Users who have set up Multi-Factor Authentication for Microsoft 365 will be prompted for MFA periodically when signing into Email, Teams, OneDrive sync, and other Microsoft 365 tools on both their computers and their mobile devices.
