Remote Worker Cyber Security Tips

This article provides some quick tips for working remotely.

Below are some security tips for all employees working remotely. Some of these tips may apply to your personal devices and others to your Broward College devices. 

  • Use Strong Passwords – Passphrases are recommended with punctuation
  • Do NOT use the same passwords for personal systems i.e. banking, on-line shopping etc…
  • Do NOT use your BC Password for personal systems 
  • Avoid using your BC Asset for personal work or play
  • Always use Multi-Factor Authentication (BC One Access) 
  • Use the firewall capability when available, some routers do not have them 
  • Ensure your Anti-Virus Protection is running and is the latest version
  • Secure your home router, change the admin password, select WPA2 for the Wireless network SSID your using
  • Ensure your computer has the latest updates 
  • Always lock your computer while not in use
  • NEVER click on links from unknown sources (usually contained in emails)
  • Do not share your credentials with anyone
  • Back up personal data to an external device
  • Use BC MS OneDrive for storage
  • Be careful what you post on the Internet, your content will be there forever
  • Stay away from web sites that are not secure (HTTPS sites are secure)
  • Use a PIN on your mobile device with a screen lock
  • Avoid using unsecured public networks, they could be capturing you data
